My favorite month of the year is here! September is my absolute favorite month, especially for Book of the Month. Why might you ask? It’s my birthday month of course, and since I’m a BFF member, that mean I get a free birthday add-on this month!
With that said, I’m really surprised by the number of books this month, or lack of books should I say. I’m not disappointed in the picks, but I thought for sure we’d have more than 6 books to choose from this month. While we had a good variety of genres to choose, we only have 1 debut. I’m also surprised to see not a single witchy read or a book with fall vibes. I know Spooky Season isn’t until next month, but I like to get a jump start on the Halloween season in September, so was hoping for something in this arena. I will say that of the 6 books, I’ve read 3 already, with all 3 of those books being fast and fun reads. Keep scroll to see this month’s picks and to see what is in my box.

My Box
As I mentioned I’ve read half of this month’s picks already, so really there were only three options for me to choose from. Since it was my birthday month and I received a free add-on, I decided to treat myself to all 3 of the books I did not have. This month I picked The Attic Child, The Most Likely Club, and Other Birds to put in my box. I could have sworn I had an physical ARC of Other Birds but I could not find it anywhere in my house. We are building new bookcases in my office though, so it’s possible it’s hiding in a stack of books somewhere. Regardless all three of these were on my September Most Anticipated list and while they’re all so different they all sound amazing!
Killers of a Certain Age was such a fun read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book about retired female assassins. It had humor and a bit of action and while it’s probably not super realistic it’s not completely over the top either.

The Fortunes of Jaded Women was both exactly what I expected and not what I expected. It’s filled with humor and delves into some heavier topics as well. I ended up rounding this one up 5 stars and it would be my pick if I could only choose 1 book this month.

Love on the Brain is Ali Hazelwood’s sophomore novel. I actually read this one before I read The Love Hypothesis and so I found that I enjoyed it more than The Love Hypothesis. Her books all tend to follow the same formula and have similar characters. I really enjoyed them as light and fun reads. You’re going to get exactly you expect with her romances.
