May 2024 | BOTM Predictions

Welp, I sat down to put my predictions together last week and ended up never finishing them; but that is life with a toddler. Anyway, there are quite a few confirmed May picks already floating around already so while I’m adding them to my prediction list along with my other hopefuls, I won’t call them out, so I don’t spoil anyone’s fun! If you do want to know the spoilers – send me a message on Instagram @speakingof.books , and I’ll be happy to share!

May in general has a massive number of new releases coming out that are going to be ‘Must Reads’ for me. I’m currently reading a few of these and will hopefully have a few more reviews up in the next week or so.

Whether or not my predictions are actually picks, only time will tell. Even if they are not, all or most of these are on my April Most Anticipated New Releases, May Most Anticipated New Releases, and my Spring 2024 Most Anticipated List.

When the picks are announced and you find you have space in your box still, make sure to also check out my most recent version of BOTM Add-On recommendations HERE, because who couldn’t use even more books!

Keep in mind that these are simply predictions and books I hope get chosen. I could get these completely wrong, but the anticipation and guessing are part of the fun right?!

Mysteries & Thrillers

Ah, the Thriller and Mystery genre, always my hardest group to narrow down. Ruth Ware is a repeat BOTM author, so I see this being an add-on at most. The rest of these sound amazing, and a few are debuts. I’m currently listening to When We Were Silent which is Fiona McPhillips debut and I’m digging the narrator, but so far am getting deja vu from another recent thriller. TBD what I think. I also have copies of The Switch and The Deepest Lake. Both sounds excellent so hoping to read these soon!

Historical Fiction

My predictions for Historical Fiction are fairly diverse. Rachel Khong is also a previous BOTM author, so I could see her book making an appearance. Spitting Gold has a high likelihood of being picked and while some reviews are loving it, it wasn’t my favorite.

Romance

Nothing this month is really sticking out to me for the romance genre. Paige Toon is a repeat BOTM author so her new release could be a pick, otherwise Effie Olsen’s Summer Special that seems to be in the BOTM sphere. The likelihood of Emily Henry’s newest book being a pick is love, but it was excellent, so if you enjoy her books, you’ll love her new one.

Literary & Contemporary Fiction

I’m surprised how many contemporary and literary fiction books I added to my predictions. I just couldn’t decide. I’d love to see Oye or Crow Talk be a pick and could also see Ann Napolitano make another BOTM appearance.

Science Fiction & Fantasy

Vaishnavi Patel is another repeat BOTM author and they have offered quite a few mythology books in the past. I’d prefer to see Honey Witch as a pick as it just sounds excellent! I have copies of both of these but I’m hoping to dive into Honey Witch this weekend!

Non-Fiction

I’m not much of a Non-Fiction reader, but Did I Ever Tell You? is already up as an mid-month add-on.
