September 2022 | BOTM Predictions

Fall is my absolute favorite season, and it’s also the time I find myself reading the most. The hubby is occupied by Football and curling up with a good book on a rainy Sunday is one of my absolute favorite pastimes. It’s also my birthday month, which means a bonus book is coming my way from BOTM!

If you’re a mood reader, like me, than fall is the perfect time to read anything with a touch of magic and mystery. I always hope for witchy and dark reads as BOTM picks in September so I’ve picked a few that I feel will fit as a BOTM pick. I was very suprised there wasn’t a single romance pick for August, so I’m hoping to at least one in September. I do have one confirmed contemporary pick, so skip that section if you like to be surprised.

I have read a few of my predictions so far and have ARCs of many of the others waiting to be read. Be sure to come back in the upcoming weeks to see reviews for these.

Whether or not my predictions are actually picks, only time will tell. Even if they are not, all or most of these are on my September Most Anticipated New Releases list and my Fall 2022 Most Anticipated List.

When the picks are announced and you find you have space in your box still, make sure to also check out my most recent version of BOTM Add-On recommendations HERE, because who couldn’t use even more books!

Keep in mind that these are simply predictions and books I hope get chosen. I could get these completely wrong but the anticipation and guessing is part of the fun right?!

Mystery & Thriller

All three of my mystery and thriller predictions are a little different than what BOTM picks, so these may be completely wrong. With that said all three of these a drastically different and on my Most Anticipated List for September.

Though Killers of a Certain Age is by the well established Deanna Raybourn, it’s such a fun and different book. I mean it’s about 60 year old, female assassins with plenty of humor, what’s not to love? Nothing basically. I loved this quick read and hope it turns into a series, though there is no indication that it will.

I’m currently reading The Other Side of Night and it’s…interesting? I’ve been told it’s best to go in blind, so that’s what I did. Hopefully have a review for this one up this week.

Lastly, All that’s Left Unsaid is being compared to The Mothers which was a previous BOTM, so I could see it easily being an option for September.

Romance

I was shocked there were no romance picks in August so I’m sure we’ll see some in September. I was dead set on seeing The Kiss Curse as a pick, since the first book in the series was a BOTM pick in 2021. I did get an ARC and honestly I wouldn’t mind if it wasn’t a pick. I really wanted to like it but I just didn’t.

I actually think Where We End and Begin would be a great BOTM pick. It’s a second chance love story, and those are honestly some of my favorite romances to read. Fingers crossed.

Historical Fiction

All four of my Historical Fiction predictions are completely different. I haven’t read any of these and they are all appealing for very different reasons. As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow seems to be a more YA in nature so I feel as if this would deter BOTM from picking it up. However it has such a high Goodreads rating, that it could maybe be a pick.

The Matchmaker’s Gift has a bit a magical realism and romance vibe to it, while The Ways We Hide seems to be the more traditional WWII story. The Attic Child seems to be a much more somber story, but I would be completely okay with it being our Historical Fiction pick for September.

Contemporary & Literary Fiction

The Fortunes of Jaded Women IS A CONFIRMED September pick. I’m not sure if it will be a main pick or an add-on. I absolutely adored this book so be sure to check out my review.

Celeste Ng’s newest book Our Missing Hearts is a wish, as it’s actually a October release. She’s a previous BOTM author so I could see this being an Early Release pick.

I’m iffy on Lucy by the Sea. On one hand it sounds amazing, on the other hand I’m not really ready to read about the pandemic yet. But the reviews seem to say this is less about the pandemic and more about the way we as humans deal with isolation, so it could be a good BOTM pick.

Fantasy & Science Fiction

Spells for Forgetting seems like the most likely pick for a Fantasy pick. While Adrienne Young is not a new author, this is her first Adult books. I was stoked to get an ARC and while I liked the story, it still felt like it was written for a younger audience, which could be a reason for it not being picked.

Monsters Born and Made is another long shot, but it’s on a ton of Most Anticipated Lists and since it’s not a series, I think it could be a pick for September. I’ve been on a huge fantasy kick lately, so this one is high on my list to read.

Although somber, I might enjoy reading The child in the attic. Anxious to know what September BOTM will be.
    Thanks
