Killers of a Certain Age

One of my most highly anticipated new releases for this fall! Just from the snyopsis along this was giving me a mixture of The Change and James Bond vibes! I mean elderly women assassins? Yes please!

Billie, Helen, Natalie, and Mary Ann have been working for ‘The Museum’ for 40 years. They were the first all women group of assassins hired by their company and they are finally retiring. To celebrate their retirement they get an all expensive paid cruise which seems like a dream…until they realize they’re being setup. Now on the run, the four women are working to uncover who put a mark out on them before it’s too late.

This isn’t a deep read and has a somewhat predictable plot, but man is it good! I loved all four of our leading ladies and honestly they’re quirkiness and sass really made the story for me. I loved they way Raybourn really hit on how women over a certain age are seen as invisible (cue The Change vibes) and even though the four ladies have moments of clarify about aging, most of it was told in a comical way. I mean ‘Menopaws!’ com on, that is just the cutest.

We do jump back and forth between when they first became assassins to their present retirement state, and Raybourn did a fabulous job of tying these two timelines together. The addition of the second timeline really gave progressed the plot and didn’t slow the book down at all.

Overall, this is such a fun book. I’m really hoping this can be turned into a series, I would be so down for that. If you’re looking for a fun and fast paced read, this will definitely hit the mark!
