Alright y’all, I’m hooked on this book. I’ve never read anything from Darynda Jones, but now I want to read more and I don’t want to wait til next year for the second book in this series. This book is seriously fun and filled with humor. The relationship between Sunshine and her daughter reminds me of the mother daughter relationship from Gilmore Girls, and I am here for it!
Sunshine Vicram has returned home to the small town of Del Sol, New Mexico. She’s been mysteriously elected as the new Sherriff and she’s ready to take on her hometown, or at least she thinks she is. When she has an abducted child case within the first 24 hours of starting her new job, she knows it’s not going to be quite as easy being home, as she originally thought.
First off I loved Sunshine. Her character is a badass, quirky, and sassy. While her daughter was born when she was still a teen, she hasn’t let that stop her from creating an amazing career as a detective. In addition to Sunshine, her daughter Aury is another amazing and super likable character as well. Aury is such a mature and smart teenager and the banter between her and her mother are very entertaining.
Past our two main characters, ever other character is well developed, likable, and quirky. Honestly, the characters in this book make the story! I would pretty much read anything if this cast of folks was included.
I listened to the audio of this book and I can’t recommend it enough. If you love a good mystery series that isn’t too serious I would highly recommend this one. Now if only I can my hands on an ARC of the next book, A Good Day for Chardonnay.
