August’s Aardvark box is here and this one hit close to home in the best way. A few of these I already own, one is signed, one is a sequel I’ve been waiting on just to match my shelf, and one I’ll be honest about not finishing yet. Let’s get into it.

My Box
A Trade of Blood by Robert Jackson Bennett is the third book in the Ana and Din Mysteries and I have to be fully transparent here; I haven’t actually read the series yet. But I have Aardvark’s copies of the first two books already sitting on my shelf, and there was absolutely no way I was letting the third one not match. This is exactly the kind of series that’s right up my alley and I’m genuinely excited to finally dive in, spine-matching aside.
The Women in White by Sarah Pekkanen is one I’ve already read and reviewed, so if you want my full honest take before committing, check out my review.
The Women in White review
Lost and Found by Tarah DeWitt is the one I’m most personally excited about because I’ve really enjoyed the other books in her Spunes series, and this copy happens to be signed. A repeat author I already trust plus a signed edition is basically the dream Aardvark pull.
Spunes Reviews
She’s a Doll by Barbara Truelove is going straight onto my spooky season shelf. A murderous doll seeking revenge is exactly the kind of dark, unhinged read I want heading into fall, and I already have my copy ready and waiting. The Intrigue by Silvia Moreno-Garcia is another one I already have a copy of. A con artist targeting an elderly woman in 1940s Mexico who turns out to be far more capable than he expects. I love a premise that flips the power dynamic like that.
And then there’s Country People by Daniel Mason, which I do have a copy of and did start. Full honesty, the writing style leans more old-school literary than I expected going in, and I didn’t get very far before switching over to something else. I’m not ruling out going back to it, but for now it’s on pause. Sometimes timing with a book just isn’t right, and that’s okay.
Six picks, a lot of personal history with this box already, and one honest DNF-for-now. That’s August Aardvark for you.
