August’s Book of the Month box just dropped and it’s an exciting lineup this month. We’ve got two debuts, an early release from a repeat favorite, and one book I’ve already read and loved enough to review. On top of the five mains, this month’s collection picks lean into something a little different with a literary magazine spotlighting indie writers and a modern classic making its way into the BOTM 100. And the add-ons? Ten new options including the newest Riley Sager, which happens to be the book I’m currently reading. Let’s get into it.

My Box
This month’s five main selections are a strong mix. The Three Graces of Pearl Street by Elizabeth Wellington Rollings is a debut and an early release, and I actually have a copy already sitting on my shelf so I’m excited to dive in. The Poison Daughter by Sheila Masterson is another early release and the kind of title/premise combo that immediately makes me want to know more. Then there’s Heart of Glass by Jennifer Hillier, which I’ve already read and reviewed and loved, and Hillier is a repeat BOTM author so it’s no surprise to see her back in the box. Return to Sender by Stephanie Parente rounds out the debuts this month, and Meet Me in the Garden by Nina LaCour brings another familiar, beloved author back into the lineup. Five mains, two debuts, two early releases, and one book I have a review for.
Heart of Glass Review
On the collections side, BOTM is doing something a little different. The New Lit Scene is a bimonthly literary magazine spotlighting indie writers, and this is Volume 0, Issue 14. A great option if you want to support emerging voices in a lower-commitment format. The offset pick this month is Hello, Limerence by Momo Yamaguchi, and BOTM’s 100th pick milestone goes to a true classic: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. Hello, Limerence seems a bit to wild for my taste however if you’ve never read In Cold Blood, you definitely should pick it up. It’s an excellent review of the crime told during a time before True Crime became so big. I’m skipping all three of these.
And then the add-ons. Ten new options this month, which is a big spread. The standout for me is The Unknown by Riley Sager, which happens to be my current read right now and is actually his tenth book, which feels like its own little milestone. Beyond that we’ve got The Shadows That Listen by Louisa Carmody, Fishbone Cinderella by Elizabeth Lim, The Good Parts by Evann Normandin (another one I already have a copy of), Maggie and Arthur’s Magic Moment by Leslie Rene, and The Project by Annie Lord.
I was set on getting The Shadows That Listen and The Poison Daughter are both actually available on Kindle Unlimited so I’ve added them to my list of books to read through my membership. I ended up grabbing The Three Graces. I love a good debut and really signed up for BOTM for the debut and new authors, so I like to stick with those mainly.
