King of Pride

Kai Young is a billionaire heir to a media empire. He’s reserved, controlled, and proper to a fault. Isabella Valencia is a bartender at the exclusive club where Kai is a member She’s bold, impulsive, purple-haired, and full of life. They’re opposites in every way and she’s strictly off limits. But the chemistry between them is impossible to ignore, and no matter how hard they try, they can’t resist giving into their forbidden desires even with a crucial CEO vote on the line and everything at stake.

I’m really loving this series. These books aren’t anything heavy and they’re pretty easy reads, which is exactly what I’ve needed lately. I haven’t been reading as much as I normally do due to some personal things going on, and the Kings of Sin series has been the perfect distraction. There’s something about an extremely wealthy romance world that just pulls me in every time, and Huang knows how to build that world well.

That said, I didn’t like this one quite as much as King of Wrath. I love Kai and Isa together but second books in a series always seem to fall just slightly short of the first for me, and this was no exception. The “instant love” vibes were a little hard for me to fully invest in, and I think that’s what held this one back the most. Is it tropey? Yes. Is it predictable? Also yes. But honestly I didn’t mind because the chemistry between Kai and Isa carried it. The way Kai genuinely wanted to be part of Isa’s family was really sweet, and her brother is THE WORST. Also I’m a sucker for a British accent so Kai had me from the start on that alone.

Still a solid four star read. I read this one instead of listening and flew through it. It’s light, fun, swoony, and exactly the kind of escape I needed right now. I’ll be picking up the next book in the series immediately. If you liked King of Wrath you’ll like this one too, just know the second book magic is slightly less electric but still very much worth your time.
