November’s Book of the Month picks are here, and this month’s lineup has a little bit of everything! From romantasy and emotional contemporary fiction to literary classics and some darker, more unconventional stories, there’s plenty to choose from. I actually already have copies of quite a few of this month’s selections, which made narrowing down my box a little easier (or at least that’s what I’m telling myself). I’ve also already read and really enjoyed Revenge Plot, so be sure to check out my full review if you’re considering that one!

Sweet Pea by Kit de Waal brings character-driven contemporary fiction to this month’s lineup, while Defy the Dusk by Danielle L. Jensen delivers the fantasy and romantic tension I’ve been craving. I’ve been DYING to read Defy the Dusk, so there was absolutely no question about adding this one to my box. Revenge Plot is another selection I’ve already read and enjoyed, and you can find my full review on the blog. Rounding out the main picks are In Every Future, It’s Us by Katie Naymon, a romance exploring relationships and the possibilities of love, and Love Like Apples by Jeff Zentner, which immediately caught my attention. The ’70s vibes are speaking to me, and between the nostalgic atmosphere and Zentner’s reputation for emotional storytelling, I couldn’t resist adding this one to my box either.
Revenge Plot Review
This month, the Book of the Month 100 collection features The House of Spirits by Isabel Allende, a sweeping multigenerational story blending family drama, political turmoil, and magical realism. It’s one of those literary classics that has remained on readers’ radars for decades. Meanwhile, The Offset collection includes Dogs by Dora Å ustiÄ, offering another opportunity to explore something a little different from the usual BOTM lineup. I normally stay away from the Offset picks, just because they tend to be more experimental and I’m not in the headspace for that at the moment, not to say they won’t be good. It’s just not my time to read them.
November’s add-ons are an interesting mix, starting with Prudence Marsh Is Not a Nobody Anymore, followed by Whale Harbor by Mary Beth Keane, whose character-driven contemporary fiction often explores the complexities of relationships and family life. There’s also An Unlikely Visitor by Joanna Cannon, an author known for finding extraordinary stories in seemingly ordinary people and circumstances. For readers wanting something a little more unconventional, Public Access Afterworld by Jane Schoenbrun certainly stands out. Schoenbrun’s distinctive approach to storytelling has me intrigued enough that I decided to add this one to my box! Rounding out the selections is Scorpion Deep by C.G. Drews, another option for readers who gravitate toward darker, emotionally intense stories.
After going through this month’s selections (and checking which books I already have sitting on my shelves), I ended up choosing Defy the Dusk, Love Like Apples, and Public Access Afterworld. Defy the Dusk has been on my radar for what feels like forever, Love Like Apples won me over with its ’70s atmosphere, and Public Access Afterworld was too intriguing to pass up. I’m pretty happy with this month’s choices, and now comes the real challenge: actually getting around to reading them instead of just adding them to my ever-growing TBR.
