Aardvark September 2025

September’s Aardvark picks are here, and it’s a fascinating mix of genre-bending stories, dark humor, and literary intrigue. This lineup has a little something for every kind of reader whether you’re in the mood for a morally questionable retired serial killer, a surreal Appalachian folk tale, or a sharp-tongued essay collection that pulls no punches. With themes ranging from reinvention and obsession to survival and satire, this month’s selections are anything but boring and I’ve got thoughts.

My Box

Lots of early releases this month, which is always exciting! I actually read You Weren’t Meant to Be Human already, and while the writing is really strong, it comes with a lot of heavy trigger warnings. I’d definitely recommend skipping if you’re pregnant, postpartum, or sensitive to certain topics.

For my pick, I went with Lucky Day by Chuck Tingle. I love his work and can’t wait to see how the foil hardcover turns out!

I decided to skip Coffin Moon, Local Heavens, and A Land So Wide since I already have copies. That said, I’ve heard nothing but glowing things about Coffin Moon, and Erin A. Craig’s A Land So Wide leans more YA but should be a great choice if you’re into her brand of gothic fantasy.

Witch You Would also caught my eye. It sounds like the perfect seasonal read for this time of year. And interestingly, The Wrong Daughter popped up as a pick even though it’s currently on Kindle Unlimited, which surprised me!

About Kindle Unlimited

Overall, not a bad lineup this month, with a nice mix of dark, seasonal reads and some buzzy early releases.
