August 2025 Book of the Month

August’s Book of the Month selections are here, and while there’s a little something for everyone—romance, YA, thrillers, and even a dose of true crime—this month’s lineup didn’t totally hit the mark for me. With a mix of buzzy debuts and familiar names, it’s definitely a solid collection, but nothing screamed “must-have” for my shelves right now. If you’re still catching up on your TBR or just feeling a little picky (like I was), you might’ve sat this month out too.

Reminder: if none of this month’s picks are calling your name, don’t forget to scroll through my Most Anticipated New Releases for more inspo. And if you’re looking to bulk up your box, check out my regularly updated BOTM add-on recommendations, you might just discover a new favorite tucked in there.

My Box

I actually skipped this month! All the Tomorrows After and Immortal Consequences didn’t really catch my interest. I’m just not in a YA mood right now, and neither one spoke strongly enough to justify adding them to my shelf. Though I do love a dark academia fantasy, soooo maybe I’ll change my mind after I see some reviews. I already have copies of Seduction Theory, Hemlock & Silver, and Forget Me Not (which I’ve read and meh, it was fine but check out my review if you’re curious).

Forget Me Not Review

I was intrigued by The Man No One Believed since I love a good true crime story, but I think I might give it a go on audio instead. Still on the fence, so I figured it was better to hold off for now. I also passed on the add-ons this month. I love T. Kingfisher, but I already have a copy of Hemlock & Silver, and The Book of Lost Hours is being compared to The Ministry of Time, which I didn’t enjoy at all, so hard pass on that one.

Hoping September has more that pulls me in since it’s my birthday month!

WHAT IS BOOK OF THE MONTH?

For those who haven’t heard of Book of the Month club or BOTM, it is a subscription program, similar to audible or other box subscription services, where you get (you guessed it) a new book every month. Each month members are given 5 different books to choose from.  BOTM generally focusing on debut and emerging writers, and is known for having helped launch the careers of some of the most acclaimed authors in American literary history. In an attempt to read more books outside my favorite genres without having to siphon through all the duds, I decided to sign up for the monthly subscriptions. It costs me $15.99 per month, I choose 1 of the 5 books on the first of every month,  and it’s delivered straight to my door. You can skip any month or roll your credits over to the next month, at any time. Since I started getting BOTM in 2018, I’ve really enjoyed some of the new authors I’ve been exposed to. If you’re interested in joining BOTM, I’ve added my referral code to the bottom of this post, which if you use, you’ll be able to get a discount on your first month (book)!Interested in joining Book of the Month?
