August 2024 | Aardvark Predictions

Better late than never with my Aardvark Predictions. The twins will be making their appearance in August so we’ve been busy to say the least. So even though the Aardvark hints are already in play, I’m still putting together my predictions for August!

Unlike some other book clubs, I feel that Aardvark is a bit more of a wildcard when it comes to their picks. I don’t feel that they ever have a set formula for the genres they pick, but I have noticed the books all tend to have similar ‘vibes’ or similar themes and tones. While they’re also featured some well-known authors, I find that their books tend to be more on the edgy or experimental side and showcase more less known authors. Because of this, I’ve listed my predictions all together instead of breaking them out by genre.

I do have some confirmed spoilers, if you’re interested in finding out what it is, DM me then on Instagram @speakingof.books.

Whether or not these are actually picks, only time will tell. Even if they are not, all or most of these are on my August Most Anticipated New Release list and my Summer 2024 Most Anticipated.

JUNE 2024 MOST ANTICIPATED
JULY 2024 MOST ANTICIPATED
SUMMER 2024 MOST ANTICIPATED
Fall 2024 Most Anticipated

When the picks are announced and you find you have space in your box still, make sure to also check reviews of all past Aardvark Books that I’ve read HERE or check out my list of all the 2023 picks I read HERE, because who couldn’t use even more books!

Keep in mind that these are simply predictions and books I hope get chosen. I could get these completely wrong, but the anticipation and guessing is part of the fun right?!

August Predictions

If even half of these are picks, Aardvark is shaping up to have a great August! I’ve read two of these already and have enjoyed both so far. Bury Your Gay is absolutely perfect if you love campy 80’s horror. It’s gory and a little demented in the best way. While it’s different from Grady Hendrix, it has a similar vibe and also happens to be great on audio.

BURY YOUR GAYS REVIEW

Catherine Steadman’s newest release Look in the Mirror was another great read I finished in July. I always confuse Steadman with Catherine Ryan Howard, I’m not sure why but I do. So, this was actually my first Catherine Steadman book, and I can guarantee it won’t be my last.

LOOK IN THE MIRROR REVIEW

Lastly, and I can’t remember if it was a pick last year or not, but the second book in the Assistant to the Villain series comes out in August too, so wondering if we’ll see it this upcoming month as a pick!
