February 2024 | BOTM Predictions

January is flying by and I am painfully late to the prediction game this month. Even with February being the shortest month of the year, the list of books I’m excited for releases in February is not short. February is Black History Month and Valentine’s Day falls within the month as well, so I expect to see a solid romance pick for the holiday, and potentially a handful of new releases by African American authors or even repeat authors would be nice. I’ve read and am currently reading a few of my predictions, but I do have quite a few ARCs to get through, so be sure to come back and check out my reviews. I also have some confirmed spoilers, if you’d like to know the confirmed picks send me a DM on Instagram (@speakingof.books ), TikTok (@speakingof.books) or comment below.

Whether or not these are actually picks, only time will tell. Even if they are not, all or most of these are on my February Most Anticipated New Releases list and my Winter 2024 Most Anticipated.

When the picks are announced and you find you have space in your box still, make sure to also check out my most recent version of BOTM Add-On recommendations HERE, because who couldn’t use even more books!

Keep in mind that these are simply predictions and books I hope get chosen. I could get these completely wrong but the anticipation and guessing is part of the fun right?!

Mystery & Thriller

I normally have such a hard time narrowing down our Mystery and Thriller picks for the month but these were the three that stood out to me as being BOTM options. I’m listening to Everyone Who Can Forgive Me Is Dead currently and I’m already hooked so come back for a review soon!

Contemporary & Literary Fiction

This is normally my hardest group of genres to pick from since I’m not always in the mood for literary fiction, but do we have some awesome sound debuts coming out in February or what?! I love when BOTM picks debut authors so I’m hoping to see some of these as picks.

Historical Fiction

Honestly the only Historical Fiction I care about this month is Kristin Hannah’s The Women. It’s amazing. I loved it. You should read it.

The women review

Yangsze Choo’s The Night Tiger was a BOTM pick a few years ago and I really enjoyed it though I don’t remember it getting a ton of hype. The Hidden Life of Cecily Larson also sounds right up BOTM’s alley.

Romance

All three of these romances sound adorable! I have both to read and I’m so excited to get to them this weekend. As a good southern girl, Love and Hot Chicken has completely peaked my interest. Plus it’s a debut and you know I love my BOTM debuts!

Fantasy & Science Fiction

Ali Hazelwood is a BOTM favorite, and even though her newest romance is a bit more Fantasy/Paranormal; I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one pop up as a pick. The Other Valley falls more into speculative fiction, which can be hit or miss. Either way it sounds interesting, and I’d like to see it as a BOTM pick.

Non-fiction

I don’t read a ton of Non-fiction but I’m really trying to add a few more to my TBR this year. Both More and Slow Noodles sounds great. I mean honestly I love anything food related, and I’m hearing that More is getting rave reviews.

I hope you found a book that you are truly excited about in this post. I can’t wait to see what ends up in BOTM, as always I love to see your predictions and then find out what makes it and how they match up!
I’m so excited for those thrillers, I hadn’t heard of any of them before your post. And I’m always excited for any new book from Kristin Hannah.
