September 2023 Book of the Month

My favorite month of the year is here! September is my absolute favorite month, especially for Book of the Month. Why might you ask? It’s my birthday month of course, and since I’m a BFF member, that mean I get a free birthday add-on this month!

Well, one pick that you should absolutely choose is this month’s Historical Fiction from repeat author William Kent Kruger. The River We Remember is excellent and I’m so glad to see it as a main pick this month. I am excited to see one fall vibey book, but I’m sad to not see a single witchy read. I know Spooky Season isn’t until next month, but I like to get a jump start on the Halloween season in September, so was hoping for something in this arena. If you’re like me and looking for more spooky, creepy, or witchy vibes check out these options that are available still:

  • The Devil Take You Home
  • Spells for Forgetting – My Review
  • Vampires of El Norte
  • The Whisper Man – My Review
  • The Book of Magic
  • Practical Magic
  • Ninth House – My Review
  • Dark Places
  • Lone Women
  • Weyward
  • Mexican Gothic – My Review
  • The Broken Girls
  • The Ex Hex – My Review
  • The Kiss Curse – My Review

Keep scroll to see this month’s picks and to see what is in my box.

My Box

Of the eight picks this month I only have copies of two of them but I’m loving this month’s picks. I’ve already read The River We Remember and have a copy, so I skipped it in my box. But seriously such an amazing read! I highly recommend it and now I’m determined to read This Tender Land which has sat on my shelves for way too long!

I loved Etaf Rum’s A Women is No Man and along with The Vaster Wilds, Evil Eye is on my Fall 2023 Most Anticipated List. These two books immediately went into my box. I also choose to grab Bright Young Women. Everyone I know who has read an ARC of BYW has absolutely loved it. I trust their judgement and so I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy. Shockingly, my last pick is While You Were Out.

Now for what I skipped. I already have a copy of The Stranger Upstairs. I actually started it last night but fell asleep before I even got 7 pages in, that toddler mom life got me. I’ll post a review once I’m done, but it seems like a pretty fast paced debut so far.

I also skipped The Intern. While I’ve seen a few reviews for it, it’s not a book that was high on my radar so, this will be a library borrow for me. I also decided against adding You, Again to my box. It’s actually already available in paperback so I don’t really want to spend a credit on it, instead I put a hold in at my library for it.

That’s what’s in my box this month! Did we pick any of the same books this month? Let me know in the comments below or over on my Instagram HERE.
