I feel a little disappointed in the picks this month. Mainly because I have 5 out of the main picks, so I really only had one book to choose from which is a ‘me’ problem. I’m extremely surprised we only saw 1 add-on this month and it’s from a repeat author. I really thought we’d see another romance option or a LGBTQ options since it is June.
Of this month’s Main Picks, I’ve read 3 of them so far and am halfway through a 4th. I really would only recommend 2 of the 3 I’ve read so far.
The Lies I Tell is a repeat BOTM author, and once again Julie Clark delivers a page turning read. I really enjoyed it, and while some reviews don’t think it classifies as a thriller/mystery, I thought it fit the genre.

Things We Do in the Dark was another fantastic read by Jennifer Hillier. It’s definitely a darker thriller, but not quite as graphic or violent as Jar of Hearts.

If you’re stuck between the two here is my recommendation: if you want an page turner, quick read, with some social commentary sorta around the ‘me too’ movement, go with The Lies I Tell. If you want a traditional thriller with dark undertones go with Things We Do in the Dark. Or better yet just get both since they’re both fabulous reads.
The Lifestyle was the 3rd book I’ve read so far and I’m very ‘meh’ on it. It’s supposedly a romance but reads more similar to a women’s fiction. With swingers as a big focus, I thought for sure we would get some steam, but you’ll be disappointed if that is what your looking for. I was hoping for something hilarious and this did not deliver on that point either.
The Lifestyle | Review
Of our other 3 picks we have a first in a series fantasy, and two historical fictions. Note that while Woman of Light is a historical fiction, BOTM is classifying it as Literary Fiction. Out of our picks, there are also 2 debuts, 1 repeat author, and 1 July early releases.
If none of this month’s picks are speaking to you, I highly recommend getting member fave’s Lessons in Chemistry or The Change. Both were 5 star reads for me and are going to end up in my top reads for 2022, I can already tell.

Add-ons
Only one add-on this month, and it’s a repeat author. I’m not really surpised by it
My Box
For my own box, since once again I had copies of 5 of the main picks, I decided to go with Woman of Light and The Hotel Nantucket, which was the only add-on this month. Woman of Light is on my Summer Most Anticipated List and it’s getting rave reviews. It does seem to be more of a character driven novel though, so we will see how I like it.
On the other hand, it’s summer and I’m in need of some new summery chick-lit, which is why I picked up The Hotel Nantucket. This will be my first Elin Hilderbrand book, so this will be a brand new experience for me.
That’s what’s in my box this month! Did we pick any of the same books this month? Let me know in the comments below or over on my Instagram HERE.
Happy Reading
WHAT IS BOOK OF THE MONTH?
For those who haven’t heard of Book of the Month club or BOTM, it is a subscription program, similar to audible or other box subscription services, where you get (you guessed it) a new book every month. Each month members are given 5 different books to choose from. BOTM generally focusing on debut and emerging writers, and is known for having helped launch the careers of some of the most acclaimed authors in American literary history. In an attempt to read more books outside my favorite genres without having to siphon through all the duds, I decided to sign up for the monthly subscriptions. It costs me $14.99 per month, I choose 1 of the 5 books on the first of every month, and it’s delivered straight to my door. You can skip any month or roll your credits over to the next month, at any time. Since I started getting BOTM in 2018, I’ve really enjoyed some of the new authors I’ve been exposed to. If you’re interested in joining BOTM, I’ve added my referral code to the bottom of this post, which if you use, you’ll be able to get a discount on your first month (book)!
