April 2021 | BOTM Predictions

Am I impatiently waiting for April books to drop? Yes! Have I read my March Book of the Month books yet? No. Do I care? Also No.

Coming upon our last week of March, which means that Book of the Month books will be dropping soon for April! I’m putting my money on March 30 for when books drop. Now if you thought March was a great publishing month, than April is going to blow your mind. So many of my favorite authors are releasing new books in April and while I love BOTM for choosing lots of Debut authors, I’m really hoping for a few off my April Most Anticipated, which you can see HERE.

Every month, Book of the month tries to offer up a diverse selection of books for subscribers. There is usually always one thriller/mystery pick, one romance/women’s literature pick, most months have a non-fiction or historical fiction choice, one contemporary/literary fiction pick, and one random pick, with YA or a second in any of these categories. Earl releases are also quite common so I’ve taken a look at my April Most Anticipated List as well to draw up these predictions. We’ve also started to see quite a few extra featured add-on’s as well that tend to include books from series and well known authors.

Whether or not these are actually picks, only time will tell. Even if they are not all or most of these are on my April Most Anticipated New Releases list, which you can see HERE! When the picks are announced and you find you have space in your box still, make sure to also check out my most recent version of BOTM Add-On recommendations HERE!

Keep in mind that these are simply predictions and books I hope get chosen. I could get these completely wrong but the anticipated and guessing is part of the fun right?!

Mystery & Thrillers

One of my favorite reads of March, What Comes After is a mixture of contemporary fiction and a mystery. Don’t go into this book thinking it’s a thriller but it’s an excellent read especially for a debut. This is my #1 pick for the BOTM mystery pick this month! You can see my REVIEW HERE

AMAZON REVIEW |★★★

Paula McLain is a repeat BOTM author, and her newest book is a thriller. I’m hoping to read this over the weekend so be sure to check back for my review!

Said to be Reese’s Book Club pick for April, Northern Spy is on my list to read.

Contemporary & Literary Fiction

I have been sitting on a copy of The Music of Bees for a few months. I’ve been waiting for a beautiful spring day and the perfect mindset to read this book. This sounds right up BOTM alley, with references to anxiety and finding your place in life, I’m really hoping this ends up being an April pick.

Good Company was an excellent audio book and I’ll have a review for it coming soon. This book has the right amount of relationships/friendship themes along with a well known author to really make it BOTM material.

Historical Fiction

The Dictionary of Lost Words is another story that has been waiting for me to read. Honestly, I’ve never thought about how the dictionary was made or who runs it, and so this historical fiction would be a great pick for April. It also talks about the women’s suffrage movement in London as well, and with a high demand for Women’s rights taken place, especially in places such as London, at the moment I think this would be an excellent choice.

I’m not entirely sold that The Social Graces will be an April pick. Primarily because this is such a well known author that has never had a BOTM pick thus far. However, still just highlighting this as an option, because I love everything to do with high society New York in the early 1900’s.

Romance

I can’t tell you how excited I am for Dial A for Aunties. Thanks to Berkley Publishing I have an DRC and I cannot wait to dive into it. With it’s mix of romance and mystery, this would be a great BOTM pick.

YA

I’m not sure how many Young Adult (YA) books are main picks any more and while I don’t think these will be top 5 picks I’m hoping for some add-ons.

Anna K: Away, is the sequel to Anna K, which was a BOTM pick this time last year. I’d love to get the second book in the series and have them both be BOTM editions.

I absolutely loved The House of Hollow, which comes out April 6. It’s a good mix of horror, fantasy, and YA. I have a full review for it HERE.

Witches Steeped in Gold, the first in a new YA Fantasy series is Jamaican Inspired. Another book I have on my shelf to read and while I’m not sure it will be a BOTM pick, I would love to see this book be a pick.

Already Available

In addition to the above books, there is one book that was already a Book of the Month pick in previous months that releases in April. One of March’s picks was In a Book Club Far Away.

I hope you found a book that you are truly excited about in this post.
