November 2020 Book of the Month

Happy Turkey Month! Only two month’s left of the year and even though I’ve read over a 100 book this year, my TBR is still out of control. I’m trying really hard to not purchase any books besides my November Book of the Month picks, so I may or may not have filled both of my boxes this month, again.

There is a lot of talk around this month’s picks not being great. However, I will say there is still an option for everyone and generally I noticed that November is a slower publishing month, thus options seem to be a bit more limited. Regardless, one or two of these were on my ‘November 2020 Most Anticipated List‘ (MAL, which you can see HERE) and I’m always happy to have an excuse to get one of my MAL picks without breaking my book buying ban.

This month is heavy on the romance front. I would have liked to have seen a few extra non-fiction books this month, since it’s Non-Fiction November. However it’s a decent month for picks, though it’s certainly not my favorite month of picks.

Friendly reminder that if you don’t see anything you’d like to put in your box this month, you can always add a ‘Member’s Favorite’ book as your main pick instead! There are also FOUR new debut options available, that you can pick from to help you complete your 2020 Challenge!

November Picks

Memorial

For some reason I thought this was non-fiction book but it’s not, it’s a romance. Said to be both funny and heartbreaking but with rave reviews on Goodreads. The biggest trigger warning is that it doesn’t use Quotation Marks, so beware for my Grammar Fiends.

The Violent Delights

I loved loved loved The Last Magician Series so I’m so excited to have another series to dive into. This is one of the DEBUT options and is a Romeo & Juliet retelling.

Pretty Little Wife

The monthly thriller pick, Pretty Little Wife is a super early release and doesn’t hit shelves until the end of December. This is another DEBUT, and is said to be a creepy fasted paced read.

This Time Next Year

Another new release This Time Next Year is the second romance pick of the month. It’s recommend by Josie Silver so if you like her books, this one is for you.

Star Crossed Sisters of Tuscany

This emotional read takes place in Tuscany (obviously) so for all my travel starved friends, this book is for you.

Add-Ons

In additional to the monthly picks there are 4 new add-ons available to members. There are two debuts, two thrillers, and two older releases.

The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley

Lucy Foley’s The Hunting Party, released in 2019. This whodunnit, is a perfect winter read and you can see my full review HERE!

Goodnight Beautiful by Aimee Molloy

Goodnight Beautiful, is an October release. This psychological, action packed thriller has rave reviews on Goodreads and is one of Amazon’s top Thriller picks.

Group by Christie Tate

Group, has a ton of controversary around it and is Reese Witherspoon’s Bookclub’s pick for November 2020.

White Ivy by Susie Yang

I was very surprised that White Ivy wasn’t a main pick for this month. It reads similar to The Last Story of Mina Lee but I really enjoyed this book. I have a full review for it HERE!

My Picks

As always, the monthly thriller pick was the first thing to go in my box and I also threw in Goodnight Beautiful as well since it’s been on my wishlist for a month or two now. Also around this time of year, especially over Christmas and the Holiday’s, I tend to graviate towards lighter, romancy reads so I made sure to stock up on the romance genre by This Time Next Year in my box.

I’ve been on a magical series, particular YA, kick lately so in went These Violent Delights. I also adored The Last Magician series and hearing those two compared really sealed the deal for me.

Lastly, I added an older pick After the Eclipse. It’s been on my radar for a while now, and since it’s a True Crime memoir, I felt that Non-fiction November was the perfect to time to add it to my box. Click HERE to see the full synopsis.

WHAT IS BOOK OF THE MONTH?

For those who haven’t heard of Book of the Month club or BOTM, it is a subscription program, similar to audible or other box subscription services, where you get (you guessed it) a new book every month. Each month members are given 5 different books to choose from.  BOTM generally focusing on debut and emerging writers, and is known for having helped launch the careers of some of the most acclaimed authors in American literary history. In an attempt to read more books outside my favorite genres without having to siphon through all the duds, I decided to sign up for the monthly subscriptions. It costs me $14.99 per month, I choose 1 of the 5 books on the first of every month,  and it’s delivered straight to my door. You can skip any month or roll your credits over to the next month, at any time. Since I started getting BOTM in 2018, I’ve really enjoyed some of the new authors I’ve been exposed to. If you’re interested in joining BOTM, I’ve added my referral code to the bottom of this post, which if you use, you’ll be able to get a discount on your first month (book)!
