Aardvark June 2026

Aardvark June picks are here and this might be my favorite month from them yet. If you’re not familiar, aardvark is a book subscription that leans a little darker, a little more literary, and a little more indie than some of the bigger boxes. I genuinely look forward to seeing what they pick every month. This month we have a jaw-dropping thriller, a fantasy adventure, literary sci-fi, contemporary fiction about friendship there’s something for everyone here and that’s what I love about Aardvark. They don’t just pick one genre and call it a day. If you’ve been thinking about subscribing, June is a great month to jump in and you can even get your first box for $4 using code: SPEAKINGOFBOOKS.

June Picks

My Box

This is a strong month. The standout for me is The Anniversary by Alex Finlay, which is already a 5-star read and my review is up on the site. Multiple timelines, a cold case, and a twist that genuinely made my jaw drop. If you love thrillers and you’re only grabbing one book this month, it’s that one. I’m also currently reading The Unicorn Hunters by Katherine Arden and Headlights by CJ Leeds. Katherine Arden does lush, immersive fantasy better than almost anyone and if you loved The Bear and the Nightingale you already know what she’s capable of. I’m into it so far and will have a full review up when I finish. Headlights I’m 50% through, it’s a longer book at 400 pages, but OMG I’m flying through it. I’m so addicted and I would’ve read to 3am last night if I wasn’t so tired. It’s definitely on the horror side but is also a police procedural. There is some gory, but ultimately, it’s so atmospheric and the writing is astounding imo. Definitely excited to finish it.

The Anniversary Review

On my to-read list from this month are Girl’s Girl by Sonia Feldman, which caught my eye as a story about female friendship and what it actually means to show up for other women, and Sublimation by Isabel J. Kim, which is giving literary sci-fi. If you like your fiction a little weird and thought-provoking, that’s the one to watch. The Very Definition of Love is the only pick I don’t have a copy of yet so I can’t speak to it personally, but I’m curious and would love to hear from anyone who’s read it.
