September 2026 Most Anticipated

September!

September might be my favorite reading month of the entire year, mostly because it’s also birthday season in my house: mine, my dad’s, my husband’s, my mother-in-law’s, and about three of my closest friends, all crammed into a couple of weeks. It’s basically a nonstop parade of cake, which means my actual reading time takes a hit right when publishers decide to release some of the best books of the year. The irony is not lost on me. I did notice that there were a ton of new series releasing in September especially for fantasy, which I love! Here’s everything I’m most excited about this month, plus the full list of everything releasing if you keep scrolling.

As I always do in my ‘Most Anticipated’ write ups, I’m sharing a few that I’m most excited for first. I then separate out new releases by their release date. I don’t go into too much detail on each of the books being released, because we’d be here forever, but you can always click on the image of the book to get more info.

So let’s talk about the 12 books I’m absolutely looking forward to the most / already loved that are releasing soon! Most of these are a sequel in a series, and I cannot wait to get my hands on them.

Here are the 16 releases I’m most excited about this month, and I’ll be honest, I have copies of almost every single one of these already. I’m just making my way through them slowly. Very slowly. Like, embarrassingly slowly, lol.

Tales from the Territory by Travis Baldree is exactly the cozy fantasy comfort read I want going into fall and this is one of my favorite series. Strange Bedfellows promises the kind of unlikely-pairing premise I can never resist.

For romance, A Study in Sparkling continues the Love Notes series, and The Me I Used to Be looks like the kind of emotional gut-punch that’s going to wreck me in the best way. Big Bad Wolf is the new one from the Pumpkin Spice Café author, which feels like the most correct September release of the entire season.

On the darker side, Dead Beat wraps up the Ninth House series which I have been waiting forevvvver for. Grim Tidings continues the grim reaper x guardian angel romance from Ghosted, and The Paradox Club has that genre-bending mystery energy I love. We Already Dug the Grave and Look What the Cat Dragged In both look deliciously twisted, and The Strangers is giving me full unsettled energy just from the title.

Paper Ghosts by Sarah Addison Allen is an automatic must-read for me, her books always feel like a warm hug with a little bit of magic stitched in. The Treasure House and The Sisters of Crimson House both have that atmospheric, secrets-in-an-old-building appeal that I’m always a sucker for.

Kiss Slay Replay sounds like pure chaotic fun and I love a good Rachel Harrison book especially in the fall. I’ve heard some really good things about her newest book as well. Before You Were Anne rounds out the list with the kind of layered, character-driven story I can already tell is going to stick with me. I really enjoyed The Return of Ellie Black and I’m excited to jump back into the series.

Sixteen books, one very ambitious TBR, and roughly zero chance I read all of these before October. But that’s what makes it fun.

These are just some of the upcoming September releases that I’ve read and am in the process of reading, but if you keep scrolling there are so many other amazing books coming out soon.
