Recipe for a Charmed Life

Georgia Jackson is living out her dreams and is up for a Sous Chief position in Paris. That is until she catches her boyfriend cheating on her in the freezer at work and her sense of taste starts to leave her. Heartbroken and lost, Georgia heads back to The States and to her estranged mother to get away from the mess she finds herself in. While there she discovers the secrets of her mother’s family and might realize her charmed life isn’t what she really wants.

I’m a huge foodie and love stories about food. Abate I’d prefer if the food also came with the book, but I digress.

I wanted to like this, and it was a cute story, but it was repetitive and felt long. I had some issues with Georgia as a main character, and while I enjoyed watching her grow as a person, I didn’t ever feel fully connected to her or the need to know more about her. I did find that Cole was a much more interesting character, but even then, his reclusive status was a bit much, and the miscommunication from lack of actually saying what you’re thinking is one of my least favorite romance tropes. The whole ‘I just can’t tell you right now’ or ‘it’s not my secret to tell’ just stretched the book out way further than it needed to be.

While I love a good full circle moment and the food depictions were excellent, this story just didn’t ‘wow’ me. It was fine but there were just one too many things that I didn’t like. I loved Linden’s first book, so I’ll be back for more from the author, this one just wasn’t great for me.
