March 2024 BOTM Predictions

March is such a big month for publishing and there are so many good books coming out that choosing 2-3 books for each genre was not an easy task, but I did my best! I’ve read only 1 of my predictions so far but have copies of most of the others. I’m entirely backlogged on ARCs lately, because my house has seen the regular flu, the stomach flu, ear infections, and croup all within the last 2-3 weeks. But we’re on the mend and I’m back to reading!

Every month, Book of the Month tries to offer up a diverse selection of books for subscribers. There is usually always one thriller/mystery pick, one romance/women’s literature pick, most months have a non-fiction or historical fiction choice, one contemporary/literary fiction pick, and one random pick, with YA or a second in any of these categories. Early releases are quite common, so I’ve taken a look at my April Most Anticipated List as well to draw up these predictions.

I do have some confirmed picks, if you’d like some spoilers DM me on Instagram at @speakingof.books.

Whether or not these are actually picks, only time will tell. Even if they are not all or most of these are on my March Most Anticipated New Releases list, which you can see HERE! When the picks are announced and you find you have space in your box still, make sure to also check out my most recent version of BOTM Add-On recommendations HERE!

Keep in mind that these are simply predictions and books I hope get chosen. I could get these completely wrong but the anticipated and guessing is part of the fun right?!

Mystery & Thriller

Listen for the Lie was a fantastic listen and is a debut so I’m really hoping to see it as a pick in March! Kill for Me, Kill for You was another absolutely fabulous read. It has some Silent Patient vibes, which would pair it perfectly with BOTM. Both Carola Lovering and Simone St. James are repeat authors, so while I wouldn’t be surprised to see them as picks, I’d hope that they were going to be add-ons.

Romance

All of my romance picks this month are from repeat authors! I just couldn’t decide which would fit best, so I added them all. I will literally read a grocery list from Abby Jimenez, so I’m hopeful hers will be a pick. Otherwise, I’d be happy with any of these options!

Contemporary & Literary Fiction

While I have copies of all three of these, I have yet to read any of them. They’re all so different but sound like they’re right up BOTM’s alley. Both The Husbands and Like Happiness are debuts so I’m hopeful we’ll see one of them show up in March.

Historical Fiction

This month’s Historical Fiction picks are incredibly diverse. I’m most intrigued by the debut Pelican Girls though, and while I’d be surprised if it was an actual pick, I’m hopeful!

Science Fiction & Fantasy

I feel very much like a broken record, but my fantasy and science fiction picks span across the genres. We’ve seen quite a few fantasy series introduced by BOTM and The Last Bloodcarver seems to fit the ticket for what they normally look for. On the other hand The Last Murder at the End of the World is by an established author and blends a post-apocalyptic world with a murder mystery. The Morningside though stays firmly in the magical realism realm which BOTM does tend to gravitate towards.

I could also see Rebecca Serle’s newest being a pick as she would be a repeat author. While I love Serle’s writing Expiration Dates just didn’t deliver for me.
