December 2023 Book of the Month

The final books of the year have dropped from Book of the Month, and quite a bit earlier than anticipated! Even though I like this month’s picks, I had a hard time deciding on which ones to add to my box. In part because I have copies of six of eleven of this month’s picks. I’ve read two of this month’s picks already and am actually reading another two of them now as well. That didn’t leave me with a ton of choices to choose from, but I still ended up shipping a box this month!

Of this month’s picks there is: 2 early releases, quite a few repeat authors, and 3 holiday reads .

If you are still looking for something to read be sure to check out some of my Most Anticipated New Releases lists. If you’re looking for add-ons to put into your boxes, be sure to check out my BOTM add-on recommendations, which I update every couple of months.

My Box

Of this month’s picks I already have copies of two of this month’s main picks. I have a copy of both A Winter in New York and The Kingdom of Sweets and am actually reading both at the moment. I’m enjoying them so far but I think I’m enjoying The Kingdom of Sweets more. It’s interesting to read a nutcracker retelling and perfect for this time of year.

For this month’s add-ons I have copies of The Mystery Guest, The Gentleman’s Gambit, The Second Chance Year, and Alice Sadie Celine. While I’m currently reading Alice Sadie Celine, I have already read and reviewed both The Mystery Guest and The Gentleman’s Gambit. I wasn’t a fan of The Maid last year, so I was hesitant to read the second in the Molly Maid series, but I actually enjoyed The Mystery Guest more than the first book, though it still won’t be making any top lists for me. I also had fun finishing The League of Extraordinary Women series in The Gentleman’s Gambit. It wasn’t my favorite in the series, but it was enjoyable.

Even though Gwen & Art Are Not In Love has been getting rave review, I’m still hoping out hope to get an ARC of this one, so I decided to skip it for now. I also decided to skip Five Years From Now and The Other Mothers. They both sound good but I’m going to wait to see some additional reviewers enjoy then and potentially get them from the library.

Three of my most anticipated new releases for this upcoming winter season ended up being picks this month. The Storm We Made, No One Can Know, and The Frozen River are all in my 24 Most Anticipated Releases for Winter 2023. I ended up grabbing a copy of each of these and adored The Frozen River and enjoyed No One Can Know so far. The Storm We Made is also getting rave reviews and I plan to read that one soon!

I had been checking my emails for your BOTM predictions and thought I read it wrong, but no the books are out. 😮
Although I was still sad to not get your predictions post this month, it’s my favorite and I look forward to it each month!
