February selections are here and I’m on the fence about them.
Of this month’s picks there is 3 debuts, which I love! I started my Book of the Month account to get to know new authors so it’s my favorite when we see debut authors. We also have 1 repeat author and one well known author.
I surprisingly have copies already of most of these, and while I’ve read only one of them, I’m halfway through a second pick. Maame, one of this month’s debut picks was a 5-star read for me. It started out slow but it’s a moving coming of age story, and I enjoyed it more than I anticipated.

**Quick shameless plug: In the middle of August our SPEAKING_BOOKS Instagram account was disabled by IG. I have filed countless appeals to try and get my account back (that I’ve had for 4+years ) and have only gotten vague and generic responses. If you like reading my rambles, I would love for you to follow my new account @SPEAKINGOF.BOOKS.**

My Box
I almost skipped this month but I’m great at convincing myself I need more books.
Of this month’s 6 options I have copies of Maame, The Writing Retreat, and River Sing Me Home. Maame was excellent. It’s understated, complex, humours, and sad but it was well worth the read. I adored both the book and the audio version. If you’re looking for a coming of age novel that will make you think, this is the perfect pick for you.
Maame Review
I’m currently halfway through The Writing Retreat so I’ll have a review up for that one soon. I’m liking it so far, but only time will tell if this thriller delivers.
I didn’t think Jojo Moyes or Brest Easton Ellis would be options this month as the authors are so well known, and I already put in holds at the library for both of the books. Georgie, All Along sounds super cute and I need some light books to read. I’ve been buried in thrillers and fantasy lately, so I decided to make Georgie my pick for the month!
That’s what’s in my box this month! Did we pick any of the same books this month? Let me know in the comments below or over on my Instagram HERE.
