I am actually shocked there are no debut books this month. I have noticed that July has less new releases than other months but between the main picks and the add-ons, four of the authors are repeats. There also is not a single historical fiction pick which is very surprising to me! However, they did do a huge restock of older BOTM picks and add-ons so maybe it’s intentional. I’ll have a new BOTM add-on guide up later today or tomorrow so be sure to check back in.

Of this month’s Main Picks, I’ve read 5 of them so far and have of another ARC (advanced reader copy) that I still need to get to. There was only one book between the mains and add-ons that I didn’t have and it’s going to be the only book I pick this month, since it was on my Most Anticipated list. Here are some reviews of the ones I have read so far.

This month is for thriller and mystery lovers, as there are 4 choices to you can get. I’m not really thrilled with any of the options but You’re Invited would be my recommendation if you can only choose one. I just finished it this morning and will have a review for it later this week but the mixture of police interviews and Sir Lankan culture mixed in makes it interesting. It’s also an early release.

Next up is First Born, which I’m so torn on. I think I liked it but none of the characters are likable. If you like big plot twists you’ll enjoy this one.

I’m not surprised to see Riley Sager’s newest book The House Across the Lake as a pick, but I am disappointed. His books have gotten worse with each new one and this one was ‘meh’ at best. It has a weird paranormal aspect to it that I could have done without.

Another big name & repeat author available this month is Ruth Ware. Her books are hit or miss for me. I liked this one more than One by One but it still wasn’t my favorite. It is a solid mystery even if it is a bit long (400+ pages).

For my non-thriller fans, Katherine Center’s newest book is also a pick for July! It’s more rom-comy than her other books but it’s adorable and I loved it.

My Picks

I added three choices to my box this month, only 1 of which is a July pick. I have a copy of all of this month’s picks other than Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. I tried to get an ARC but didn’t make it happen this month, and since it’s so high on my Want to Read list, I knew I had to add it.

The other two picks are older BOTM picks. The Girls I read years ago, maybe in 2017. It’s an excellent book. It’s a little slower but is based off of the Manson family, loosely. It’s one I always recommend to people but I’ve never had a physical copy, so I decided to grab it. I also picked The Wonder by Emma Donoghue (both my add-ons are both Emmas, how funny!). It’s written by the author who wrote Room and it sounds very interesting.

WHAT IS BOOK OF THE MONTH?
