A new year is almost upon us. Which means we get to lie to ourselves about all the books we’re going to read from our shelves this year, instead of getting new books! Not to make you break any New Year’s resolution you might have about reading your backlist, but there are so many good books coming out at the start of 2022! I mean we’re really starting off the year with the bang when it comes to new releases, so prepare your wallets and book
As I always do in my ‘Most Anticipated’ write ups, I’m sharing a few that I’m most excited for first. I then separate out new releases by their release date. I don’t go into too much detail on each of the books being released, because we’d be here forever, but you can always click on the image of the book to get more info.
So let’s talk about the books I’m absolutely looking forward to the most / already read that are releasing soon!
Two of my Most Anticipated Releases for January and I’m seeing quite a bit of hype around both are The Maid and The School for Good Mothers. Both seem right up my alley. While The Maid is a whodunnit type mystery, that follows Molly the Maid as she’s accused of murder, The School for Good Mothers is a sci-fi, dystopian that is being compared to The Handmaid’s Tale. Neither one of these delivered for me. In fact they’re both ★★ reads for me and I basically read them back to back. So while they were two of my Most Anticipated, I don’t really recommend them but check out my reviews to see if they’re more up your alley.

A Flicker in the Dark and Reckless Girls are both two thrillers that were very high on my to read list. I was so excited when I received ARCs of both, and read them both in a day. While neither is groundbreaking, they’re both decent thrillers but are a bit forgettable in my opinion. I enjoyed Reckless Girls a bit more, and maybe my expectations of A Flicker in the Dark were just a little too high. It was being compared to Karen Slaughter’s Pretty Girls, which is one of my all time favorites, so the bar was high.

Both Desolation Canyon and One Step Too Far are the second installment in a mystery/detective series. Both were entertaining and can be read as standalones, though you get the most out of the characters by reading them in order. I get nervous for sequels but both delivered in terms of enjoyment and uniqueness.

Finally, The Roughest Draft, while being much heavier than I anticipated was a great contemporary romance. The steam is minimal, and while it’s similar to Emily Henry’s Beach Read, this one felt more literary than anything else. I’d recommend it.
review: the roughest draft
