September 2021 Most Anticipated

My favorite month of the year is almost upon us!

September brings not only more new books to check out, but also brings my Birthday! While September is my favorite month, it’s also one of the busiest of the year. The birth of 75% of my favorite people falls in September, it’s the end of the business year for work, and for some reason new life events always pop up. All in all, September always ends up being such a busy month, that allows for minimal reading.

And while I find, September to not be a huge publication month such as March, so many of my Most Anticipated 2021 releases hit shelves this month. I’ve been lucky enough to receive advanced copies of so many of these releases and will be posting reviews for many of the below in the coming weeks. Be sure to follow us to get updates when my reviews go live!

As I always do in my ‘Most Anticipated’ write ups, I’m sharing a few that I’m most excited for first. I then separate out new releases by their release date. I don’t go into too much detail on each of the books being released, because we’d be here forever, but you can always click on the image of the book to get more info.

So let’s talk about the 7 books I’m absolutely looking forward to the most / already loved that are releasing soon! Most of these are a sequel in a series, and I cannot wait to get my hands on them.

The Scholomance Series: There was some backlash against Naomi Novik about book #1 in this series, A Deadly Education. However, I found the negative comments to be mute and honestly I found this book to be extremely inclusive. Personally, I felt that the comments that were causing concerns, were taken out of context. Anyway, I adored this book, think Novik is incredibly imaginative, and I am literally way to excited to get a copy of book #2 The Last Graduate.

League of Extraordinary Women: Dunmore is back with the 3rd installment in this series. This time we are set to follow Hattie Greenfield, in Portraits of a Scotsman. Book #1, Bringing Down the Duke was a 2018 favorite read of mine. I enjoyed book #2 A Rogue of Ones Own, but it did not completely wow me. I’m anxious to see if Dunmore’s newest installment will revitalize the series for me, fingers crossed.

The Convergence Saga: No Gods, No Monsters is the first in Cadwell Turnbulls newest series. While I haven’t read any other woks by Turnbull, this one really caught my eye back in December when I was picking my Most Anticipated Releases for 2021. I’m halfway through this fantasy story at the moment, and I’m undecided on my verdict just yet. Be on the lookout for my review coming soon.

Outside of series, I am most excited for two mysteries and a historical fiction/science fiction blend. Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr, has such a unique premise. I’m currently halfway through this book as well so be on the lookout for my review soon.

Both Alice Feeney and Lisa Jewell are two of my favorite thriller / mystery writers, so I am beyond excited for their newest releases. While I’m still hoping a copy of Feeney’s Rock Paper Scissors will show up on my doorstep, I did get an ARC of Jewell’s The Night She Disappeared. It was certainly an enjoyable read, but it wasn’t my favorite of Jewell’s works. I would still probably recommend checking it out for the casual mystery reader though.

In the coming weeks I will have lots of reviews for these September releases, so be sure to subscribe to get weekly updates from SPEAKING OF…, and make sure to follow us on Instagram @speakingof_books.
