July 2021 Book of the Month

July books dropped a bit early this month! Pretty spot on with my prediction this month and I actually have reviews for some of these already up. I’ll be sure to link them.

This month there 4 out of the 5 books are early releases, meaning they’re not hitting shelves until August. The 5th pick is a mid-July release, so any and all BOTM members are getting the chance to read these books before they drop in stores! For some reasons that always makes me super excited but I will say I’m a little surprised by how many August releases there are to choose from this month, with only 2 out of the add-ons and main picks actually releasing in July.

I’m much happier with this month’s picks, over June’s picks. We’re seeing less well known authors and two debut authors in our main picks. For me, BOTM is all about finding new authors, so I personally prefer to see lots of debut authors over big names.

Without further ado, check out this Month’s picks below and see what I put in my box!

July Add-ons

A solid number of add-on’s this month. I’m happy to see that both our major authors from this month just had add-on books, instead of being main picks.

I already have a copy of The Personal Librarian, and while I have not read it yet, I hear it’s great.

My July box

Before I dive deeper into what I did pick, I wanted to highlight that I did not pick We Are the Brennans, because I already have a physical copy of the book. I would highly, highly recommend it if you are in the mood for a good contemporary fiction family drama.

I also opted to not get 56 Days. I’m currently reading this one and while I’m enjoying it, so far it’s not something I feel I need a physical copy of. Check back soon for my review of 56 Days.

Of our main picks I decided on three. Both Sisters in Arms and The People We Keep have great synopsis and have over a 4.40 rating on Goodreads. I’ve also heard a few excellent reviews from a few of my bookish friends and decided to grab both.

I also decided to great a physical copy of Razorblade Tears. While I already have a digital copy, I feel that this is a book I’ll want to share with others, specifically my dad in this case. It’s a excellent read and while it’s more of a gritty mystery with some graphic violence. I will also say, that while this says it’s a thriller, it’s really more of a mystery. I’m not sure why BOTM would classify it as a thriller actually. If you read S.A. Cosby’s Blacktop Wasteland last year than you’ll love this one just as much!

As far as add-ons went this month, I threw in Riley Sager’s Surivive the Night to make the rest of my Riley Sager books. I also decided to add China Room, as the premise of the story is really speaking to me right now.

That’s what’s in my box this month! Did we pick any of the same books this month? Let me know in the comments below or over on my Instagram HERE.

Happy Reading!

WHAT IS BOOK OF THE MONTH?

For those who haven’t heard of Book of the Month club or BOTM, it is a subscription program, similar to audible or other box subscription services, where you get (you guessed it) a new book every month. Each month members are given 5 different books to choose from.  BOTM generally focusing on debut and emerging writers, and is known for having helped launch the careers of some of the most acclaimed authors in American literary history. In an attempt to read more books outside my favorite genres without having to siphon through all the duds, I decided to sign up for the monthly subscriptions. It costs me $14.99 per month, I choose 1 of the 5 books on the first of every month,  and it’s delivered straight to my door. You can skip any month or roll your credits over to the next month, at any time. Since I started getting BOTM in 2018, I’ve really enjoyed some of the new authors I’ve been exposed to. If you’re interested in joining BOTM, I’ve added my referral code to the bottom of this post, which if you use, you’ll be able to get a discount on your first month (book)!
