My Thoughts

Samiah, has recently found out that her current boyfriend is dating two other women. When she goes down to the restaurant to confront him, she finds that she has made two new friends. She befriends both London and Taylor, the other women her now ex-boyfriend was dating. When the three women decide to give up dating for 6 months and instead use that time to focus on their own goals their bond of friendship is sealed.

Except the day after that pact has been made, Samiah finds herself insanely attracted to the new emloyee at her company, Trendsetters. Daniel Collins, seems to have everything Samiah has been looking for except one thing. He’s working undercover to expose a money laundering scheme at Trendsetters. What could go wrong?

This story is so cute! I really enjoyed reading it. It’s fast paced and the dynamic and spark between Samiah and Daniel is exactly what I look for in a rom-com book. Even though this book is filled with ‘cutesy’ events and conversations, it also has a good level of depth.

The story encompasses a lot about the expectations of women and how hard it is to feel successful. Even when you’re a leading Pediatric Surgeon (London), own you own fitness company (Taylor), or a badass computer engineer climbing the corporate ladder at an extraordinary pace (Samiah), it’s hard for people still think you need ‘a man’ to make you happy. As an almost 30 year old women, also in the Tech industry, I could really understand alot of the issues Samiah was encountering. It really is tough to be a women in a male dominate world sometimes. It’s even tougher still because while you may be excelling at your career, societies standards of also being a mom, a wife, and doing everything else that is expected of you, weight you down. It’s hard to ignore those comments and just let yourself enjoy your own success.

If you’re in the mood for a quick read or just in need of a wonderful rom-com this book is for you. Also this book takes place in Austin, and as a Texan, I love any book placed in Texas! This book comes out June 9th, get it HERE!
