May Book of the Month

A new month means new Book of the Month picks! I was not overly excited for the May picks. The April picks were definitely more in line with what I normally read. The picks had the standard Thriller but also a lot of romance/chick-lit mixed in which I think is great for summer reading. Anywho, I picked up 4 books this month. Check out my unboxing video below or keep reading to see what the May picks were and what I picked for my box.

My Box

thumbnailAlright so you know how I just said I was not quite as thrilled with the picks for May, well that did not stop me from still getting 4 of the picks. I decided to take a chance on this month’s thriller A Good Marriage, mainly because I heard Nicole Kidman was in the works of producing a movie around the book. The Knockout Queen was one of my most anticipated releases from April, so that was an auto add into my box. On top of that I have been in the mood for Rom-Com’s lately, and since my TBR shelf is empty of that particular genre at the moment, I decided to also add in The Boyfriend Project.

I skipped on Sue Monk Kidd’s newest book, since I already knew my mother had purchased the book for herself. You can bet I’m going to be stealing that as soon as she finishes reading.

Lastly, Happy and You Know It seems to have a lot of humor in it. While it was not on my radar previously, the premise seems more of a comedy than anything else. Who doesn’t need more laughs in their life right now?? So how could I not pick it.

In total I picked up 4 new books from Book of the Month for May. I added no additional add-ons even though there were quite a few news ones added this month. None of them really screamed ‘pick me’!

WHAT IS BOOK OF THE MONTH?

For those who haven’t heard of Book of the Month club or BOTM, it is a subscription program, similar to audible or other box subscription services, where you get (you guessed it) a new book every month. Each month members are given 5 different books to choose from.  BOTM generally focusing on debut and emerging writers, and is known for having helped launch the careers of some of the most acclaimed authors in American literary history. In an attempt to read more books outside my favorite genres without having to siphon through all the duds, I decided to sign up for the monthly subscriptions. It costs me $14.99 per month, I choose 1 of the 5 books on the first of every month,  and it’s delivered straight to my door. You can skip any month or roll your credits over to the next month, at any time. Since I started getting BOTM in 2018, I’ve really enjoyed some of the new authors I’ve been exposed to. If you’re interested in joining BOTM, I’ve added my referral code to the bottom of this post, which if you use, you’ll be able to get a discount on your first month (book)!
