January 2025 Book of the Month

The first books of 2025 are here and it’s a great drop this month. With five new main picks this month and five more new/recent add-ons, I honestly think there is something for everyone this month. Though it’s light on the romances, we have lots of literary and contemporary fiction picks. I’ve read three so far and have loved two of those, so I’d say I’m happy with the picks this month. We also have a ton of add-on options which it’s always fun to add extra books to those blue boxes.

My Box

I skipped this month, mainly because I have copies of all the ones I wanted. I LOVED both What Happened to the McCrays and A Killing Cold. I had ARCs of both and listened to them in November and December and they were both excellent. A Killing Cold is one of Kate Alice Marshall’s best (in my opinion) and if you love complex family dramas, Tracy Lange is always a good choice.

It pains me to say this, because I loved Interesting Facts About Space, but We Could be Rats just didn’t do it for me. Huge TW for suicide, and while the writing is great, I’m not in a place for such a literary read mentally.

Andromeda, Issac’s Song, or Playworld are something I cannot dive into at the moment. While I’ve heard Andromeda is good being four months post-partum and continuously exhausted, I don’t have the emotion capacity for anything melancholy or literary at the moment. So I skipped these three.

The House of My Mother sounds interesting, and since I’m trying to read more non-fiction, it is on my TBR. However, I prefer my non-fiction to be audiobooks and will be listening to it instead. Of the other: A Sea of Unspoken Things, The Stolen Queen, The Favorites, The Three Lives of Cate Kay, and Babylonia. I already have copies of each of these. I have started The Favorites, and I can already tell I’m going to love it.

Hopefully this helps you select your picks this month. Let me know if you’ve read any of these or what you picked either by commenting below or on my INStagram @speakingof.books.
