June 2024 Book of the Month

What better way to come back from a holiday weekend than with Book of the Month books dropping! Holy moly, talk about a bunch of add-ons! This month we have the traditional five main picks and then EIGHT add-ons. Out of the 13 picks this month, I believe 9 are repeat authors. That’s an insane amount of repeat authors and leaves us with only 1 debut author. I’m not necessarily disappointed with this month’s selection but I would have like to have seen more author variety. Almost too many repeat authors for me.

If you are still looking for something to read be sure to check out some of my Most Anticipated New Releases lists. If you’re looking for add-ons to put into your boxes, be sure to check out my BOTM add-on recommendations, which I update every couple of months.

My Box

As I mentioned, I’m not upset with this month’s picks but I’m not exactly excited about them either. I have copies of seven of this month’s picks. I’ve already read The Rom-Commers, Not in Love, and One Perfect Couple and will link my reviews below. I always love an Ali Hazelwood and Katherine Center romance but both books had a slightly more serious tone than their others. Still good and recommend for fans. Ruth Ware books just are not doing much for me lately. It’s a fine thriller but nothing outstanding.

I also have copies of Honey, Margo’s Got Money Trouble’s, Jackpot Summer, and The Lion Women of Tehran. I’m currently reading Honey and Margo’s Got Money Troubles and hoping to have reviews before next week up. I’m enjoying Honey so far. Margo’s Got Money Trouble’s is interesting and while I ended up not being a huge fan of Rufi Thorpe’s The Knockout Queen, I decided to give it a chance. It’s featuring alot of third person dialogue at the moment and I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.

Of the books I don’t have copies of Leather and Lark was an immediate add to my box! I adored listening to Butcher and Blackbird a few weeks ago and I’m so excited for Lark’s story! And since I wanted an add-on, I decided to go with a trusty Peter Swanson book. I didn’t end up getting an ARC of Talent for Murder, so I decided to grab it because Swanson doesn’t normally fail me (and it’s the only main I don’t have).

Books I didn’t choose were Swan Song, Shelterwood, and Joe Nuthin’s Guide to Life. I haven’t heard much about Shelterwood and while the synopsis sounded interesting, I just wasn’t drawn to it, which was my same reaction to Joe Nuthin‘s. I also don’t read much Elin Hilderbrand, and if I do, I normally grab them from the library. Though many readers love her books for summer reads!

That’s what’s in my box this month!

Did we pick any of the same books this month? Let me know in the comments below or over on my Instagram HERE.

WHAT IS BOOK OF THE MONTH?

For those who haven’t heard of Book of the Month club or BOTM, it is a subscription program, similar to audible or other box subscription services, where you get (you guessed it) a new book every month. Each month members are given 5 different books to choose from.  BOTM generally focusing on debut and emerging writers, and is known for having helped launch the careers of some of the most acclaimed authors in American literary history. In an attempt to read more books outside my favorite genres without having to siphon through all the duds, I decided to sign up for the monthly subscriptions. It costs me $14.99 per month, I choose 1 of the 5 books on the first of every month, and it’s delivered straight to my door. You can skip any month or roll your credits over to the next month, at any time. Since I started getting BOTM in 2018, I’ve really enjoyed some of the new authors I’ve been exposed to. If you’re interested in joining BOTM, I’ve added my referral code to the bottom of this post, which if you use, you’ll be able to get a discount on your first month (book)!
