The Sorority Murder

This was one of the thrillers I read way back in December 2021, and honestly? The fact that I still remember it clearly says a lot. My thriller memory tends to vanish the minute I close the book, but this one lodged itself firmly in my brain. Five stars, no hesitation.

The Sorority Murders kicks off with Regan Merritt, a former U.S. Marshal still reeling from personal tragedy, returning to her college hometown. There, she crosses paths with Lucas, a student running a true crime podcast focused on cold cases including the unsolved murder of a sorority girl that rocked the campus years ago. As they dig deeper, the past refuses to stay buried… and the truth is way more dangerous than either of them anticipated.

This book gave me true crime podcast meets college campus suspense in the best way. It’s got all the hallmarks of a gripping murder mystery — secrets, misdirection, tangled relationships — but also something a little different. The story leans into the psychology of grief, guilt, and justice in a way that feels really grounded.

Yes, there are a lot of POVs. Like… a lot. The cast is sprawling and the book clocks in at nearly 500 pages, and I’d argue it could’ve been 100 pages shorter without losing impact. That said, I never got bored. I was completely into the story, invested in the characters (especially Regan), and curious how all the threads would tie together.

I loved Regan Merritt as a lead: she’s strong, damaged, sharp, and complex. I’m always down for a female investigator who has her own emotional baggage but still gets the job done, and Regan hits that mark perfectly. This is the first book in her series, and I definitely plan to keep reading (eventually… my TBR is a monster, okay?).

If you like cold case thrillers, crime procedurals, or are a sucker for true crime podcast drama, this one is absolutely worth picking up. It’s twisty and satisfying, and it gave me all the “wait, what?!” moments I crave in a good whodunnit.
