January Reading Recap

It’s the last day of January and I am on track to reading 100 books this year! With reading  and listening to at least 9 books a month I just don’t have the capacity to write complete reviews for every single book. Instead my goal is to complete reviews for half of the books I read in a months period of time. But what about all the other books you read Allie? I’m glad you asked!

img_2701On the last day of every month I’ll be posted a monthly recap of all the books I read and/or listened to during that month. They’ll be quick blurbs about what I liked versus what I didn’t to help you choose which books you’d like best!

I’m pretty proud of myself honestly. Even though January was an incredibly busy month for me, I managed to a. read everything on my January Reading List and b. even added in a surprise 10th book! I will admit that I cheated on my reading list for that 10th book by reading it before I’d even finished my list but nobody cares soooo yea. See my full January Reading List HERE!

Complete list of everything I read in January 2019

  9. The Smell of Other People’s Houses | Bonnie- Sue Hitchcock – Currently listening to.
  10. The Dreamers |Karen Thompson Walker – ★★★☆☆ | Full Review Here
While I rated these by rounding up a star. I can’t figure out have to make a half star so if I thought a book was 3.5 stars I gave it 4 stars. Also, I’m normally a fairly generous rating, the only way I’ll give something 2 stars if it was absolutely the worst thing I’ve read in a while and 1 star will automatically go for anything I don’t finish reading.

Recap

I started the month out really strong and finish two books within the first 4 days of the month. Towards the end of the month though, stresses of work and life over took me and I spent less time reading than I would have liked. I also ended up having some pretty serious problem with my eyes halfway through January which made it hard to see, let alone read. But that’s life and you have to roll with punches.

Week 1

IMG_2142I started January out with a light read, Stephen King’s Elevation. A novella that was different from other things I’d read. See my full review HERE. Then I picked up The Hearts Invisible Furies and man was that a powerful read. See my full review HERE.

Week 2

I spent a few days after completing The Hearts Invisible Furies still completely captivated by what I had read. When I was finally over it through I picked up The Great Alone as my third read of the month. Partly due to an problem I was having with my eyes and partly because I was back at work from the holidays, I took me a few days to get into the rhyme of the book. I ended up loving it and have a full review of the book coming soon.

Week 3

The third week of January I read the most, it was also the week my Book of the Month picks showed up on my doorstep. After reading a a couple heavier books, I switched gears and started the week off with The Silent Patient. I read it in a night, because I’m not a responsible adult. The Dreamers also showed up on my doorstep so I opted to cheat on my reading list, dived into it, and finished it in a night. See my full review of The Dreamers HERE.  My last read for the week was Goldenstate, which once again I’m not responsible, so I read it in a night. All three books I read this week were fairly easy reads and I have a review coming out Saturday that will dive deeper into The Silent Patient and Goldenstate.

Week 4

nightt

I finally decided be a responsible adult and prioritized sleep over reading this  week. I only made it about 50 pages into The Night Tiger which was my 3rd BOTM pick.

Week 5

I finally got some time to dive deeper into The Night Tiger. I can honestly say it was my favorite out of my Book of the Month picks. I also started The Other Boleyn Sister but didn’t get too terrible far.

Even though I didn’t get through one of the books on my list I still managed to finish reading 7 physical books. My complete ranking of what I read this month is below:

  1. img_2696The Hearts Invisible Furies
  2. The Great Alone
  3. The Night Tiger
  4. Eleveation
  5. The Silent Patient
  6. Goldenstate
  7. The Dreamers

Did not finish: The Other Boleyn Girl

Did not start: The Air You Breath
