May 2026 Most Anticipated

May is shaping up to be one of those dangerously good reading months where my TBR has absolutely no chance of staying under control, not that it’s ever under control but I digress. Between buzzy new releases, long-awaited favorites, and a mix of genres that somehow all feel perfectly timed for late spring reading, I’m already bracing for some serious schedule rearranging so I can fit in “just one more chapter” (which, let’s be honest, is never just one). There’s something about this lineup that feels especially stacked—like every time I turn around, another book I’ve been anticipating is suddenly out in the world.

As always, I’ve provided links for each of the books below. If something catches your attention be sure to click the image for more information and the synopsis. These are just some of the upcoming May releases that I’m excited for. If you keep scrolling there are so many other amazing books coming out soon. Be sure to subscribe to get weekly updates from SPEAKING OF…, and make sure to follow us on Instagram @speakingof_books for reviews of all books I’m reading and other recommendation lists!

Top May Most Anticipated

As for my top May releases, this list is packed with books I’ve either already devoured or am counting down the days to read. At the very top is The Tapestry of Fate by Shannon Chakraborty, which I have been waiting for forever. Give me more pirates immediately, please. I’ve already read The Anniversary by Alex Finlay and loved getting to review it, and I’m so excited for more readers to pick it up.

The Anniversary Review

On the slightly darker and more intriguing side, Abyss by Nicholas Binge and The Arcane Arts by S. D. Coverly are calling to me, while The Tuxedo Society by Paul Rudnick and Take Me With You by Steven Rowley promise that sharp, character-driven storytelling that is sure to draw anyone in. I’m currently reading The Library After Dark and fully in my horror library mysterious era, and I’m also really looking forward to The Temptation of Charlotte North, The Shippers, and The Players Club.

Then there are the romances and contemporary reads like Fever Dream and The Daisy Chain Flower Shop, plus more literary-leaning titles like Coyoteland and The Burning Side. I somehow have copies of almost everything (a true miracle), with just a few holdouts I’m still eagerly waiting on but overall, May is delivering exactly the kind of variety and excitement I want in my reading life right now. Be sure to come back for full reviews as I make my way through these!
