Aardvark April 2026

April picks are up, and this isn’t a joke! April’s lineup from Aardvark Book Club has a really interesting mix of genres this month, and honestly it feels like one of those months where there’s a little something for every type of reader. From gothic vibes to literary fiction, romance, and even a humorous essay collection, the variety is strong this time around.

Here’s a quick look at the April picks and what caught my eye (or didn’t quite make the cut this month).

April Picks

My Box

One of the most talked-about picks seems to be Japanese Gothic, which a lot of readers are really excited about. Gothic stories can be a bit hit-or-miss for me though. Sometimes I love the atmosphere and mood, but other times they just don’t quite land for me. Because of that, I’m thinking this will probably be more of a library read for me rather than a box pick, but I’m still curious since it has such a strong following.

The book I’m personally most excited about reading soon is The Radiant Dark. I actually already have a copy of this one and it sounds right up my alley. Lately I’ve been gravitating heavily toward horror, fantasy, and mystery reads, so the darker speculative elements in this story really appeal to me.

I was also really happy to see Love by the Book included in the lineup. I absolutely adored Maame, so I’m very excited to read something new from Jessica George. I actually already have both the audiobook and the physical copy, and I’m hoping to start it sometime next week.

Maame Review

Another pick that caught my attention was Dear Monica Lewinsky, which honestly sounds hilarious and really clever. Even though it seems like a fun read, it’ll probably end up being another library pick for me simply because my reading mood lately has been so focused on horror, fantasy, and mysteries.

Two books that weren’t originally on my radar were Love Galaxy and Our Sister’s Keeper, but after reading the descriptions both of them actually sounded really great. I ended up being genuinely torn between the two, so I did what any indecisive reader might do—I basically flipped a coin to decide. In the end, Our Sister’s Keeper won out, so that ended up being my official pick for April.

Overall, this month’s Aardvark selections feel really diverse and interesting, and even the books I didn’t pick are definitely ones I could see myself reading later. Now the only real challenge is trying not to add all of them to my TBR.
