Haven’t Killed in Years

Marin Haggerty, now living under the name Gwen Tanner, has spent two decades hiding from her past as the daughter of a notorious serial killer. She’s managed to build a quiet, anonymous life until someone starts sending dismembered body parts to her doorstep with one chilling message: I Know Who You Are. To protect her secret, Gwen must confront the ghosts she’s spent years running from, diving deep into the dark corners of true crime fandom and facing the question that terrifies her most, could she be more like her father than she wants to admit?

Okay, ugh. I wanted to like this book so much more than I did. It had all the right ingredients: dark family secrets, serial killer legacy, a twisty investigation, but something just didn’t click for me. The story goes a bit off the rails near the end, and while the big reveal did catch me off guard, it also felt like a bit of a cop-out. Everything ties up neatly in the end, and I was definitely invested throughout, but I couldn’t help wishing it had gone in a slightly different direction.

That said, the character development was really strong, and I appreciated how Amy Green explored trauma, identity, and the weight of legacy without making it feel heavy-handed. The pacing was solid, the structure flowed nicely, and the writing style made it easy to fly through. If you enjoy psychological thrillers that dig into dark psychology and true crime culture, especially ones that end with a full-circle twist, you’ll probably really enjoy this one.
