The Midnight Knock

The Midnight Knock is a haunting blend of horror, mystery, and science fiction. The story follows a group of characters who are each confronted by a chilling supernatural phenomenon known only as “the knock” a midnight visitor that seems to bend time, blur reality, and pull them into a terrifying web of secrets tied to Native lore and long-buried history. Told through alternating POVs and interwoven timelines, the book steadily unravels the truth behind the midnight knock while monsters, both human and otherworldly, creep ever closer.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a solid 4 stars for me, and honestly verged on being even higher. I loved the time travelesque concept, the alternating perspectives, and the sheer uniqueness of the story. While it’s rooted in horror and mystery, it also pulls in science fiction elements and Native connections, which gave it a depth that felt fresh and compelling. I liked that our main characters were all in the morally grey category for the most part, and then of course it’s set in Texas, which is always a bonus for me.

While most of the story felt like a mystery, the added supernatural/fantasy elements added towards the end could turn some readers off, but as a big lover of fantasy world building I was the prefect audience.

This is a genre-bending, fast-paced read filled with supernatural villains, eerie atmosphere, and tension that doesn’t let up. From page one until the very end, I was completely engrossed in each character’s complex story. With plenty of suspense and an excellently crafted atmospheric vibe, this is perfect for spooky season! I haven’t read any of John Farm’s other novels yet, but after The Midnight Knock, I’ll definitely be adding them to my TBR.
