Aardvark July 2024

July books are up and I’m a day late getting this write up together. Aardvark promised that Sci-Fi/Fantasy fans would love this month and I think they hit the mark. But don’t worry the included something for romance and thriller lovers as well.

If you are still looking for something to read be sure to check out some of my Most Anticipated New Releases lists. If you’re looking for add-ons to put into your boxes, be sure to check out other reviews from previous Aardvark picks.

My Picks

So far I’ve read 1.5 of this month’s picks and have copies of all of this month’s picks, so I won’t be doing a box this month. With that said, I’ve read I Was a Teenage Slasher and am listening to Masquerade. Stephen Graham Jones is an interesting author for me. His writing is pretty unique and it sometimes takes me a minute to get into his stories. I’ve heard people comparing Teenage Slasher to Grady Hendrix writing (which I love by the way) and while yes Teenage Slasher has a quirkier vibe to it the way Hendrix’s writing has, I wouldn’t really compare the two. I haven’t written up my review for Teenage Slasher yet, mainly because I’m not sure how I feel about it. On one hand I loved the Texas setting and the unique plot; the writing style has a younger feel to it and definitely plays into the 80s campy horror scene. I’ll try and get a full review up ASAP.

I’m also listening to Masquerade which after getting immersed into the world, I’m really enjoying. If you like unique fantasy worlds, then this debut would be great for you.
