I Know Who You Are

I Know Who You Are follows Aimee Sinclair, an actress on the brink of real fame whose life spirals out of control when her husband suddenly disappears. His phone and wallet are still at home, but he’s nowhere to be found and Aimee quickly becomes the prime suspect. As she tries to piece together what happened, strange things begin to happen: her bank account is emptied, people lie to her face, and her memories don’t quite add up. Alternating chapters reveal the story of a young girl with a dark and tragic past, and it soon becomes clear that the two stories are deeply connected in a way no one will see coming.

Okay, so here’s the thing…I wanted to love this one, but it just didn’t land for me. I listened to the audiobook, and the pacing felt really slow, plus the shift between narrators didn’t quite work in audio format. The ending was definitely wild but more random and cringe than satisfying. It felt like twist after twist just for the shock factor. Plus, imo, readers are kept in the dark for so long that by the time the big reveal hits, it’s kind of like… wait, what? And honestly, the whole reveal gave me so much ick. Every time I think about it…ughhh.

I’m not always a fan of unreliable narrators, and Aimee is about as unreliable as they come, so that didn’t help. Maybe I’m just outgrowing Alice Feeney’s style, or maybe this one just wasn’t her strongest work. Either way, it’s not terrible. The prose is sharp and well-written, and you still get Feeney’s signature dark, twisty vibe but I just didn’t like it. Barely 3 stars for me.

It is available on KINDLE UNLIMITED though so that’s a bonus.
