The Hitchcock Hotel

The Hitchcock Hotel follows a tight-knit group of six friends who left college nearly fifteen years ago, only to be drawn back together by an unexpected occasion and some unresolved business that makes this reunion far from safe.

The Hitchcock Hotel had a lot of promise, and for most of the story, I was really into it. This one caught my attention thanks to all the Hitchcock references and while the story kept me engaged the ending fell flat for me. I think I wanted a bit more horror with a supernatural twist, especially since it was called and focus’ a ton on Hitchcock. There was plenty of mystery and it has a nice ‘locked room murder mystery’ feel to it, but I guess I just wanted more.

I liked that it was told through multiple POVs spanning both past and present, the characters were well-developed and distinct, making it easy to follow who was who. But again, something was just missing for them to totally jump off the page.

If you’re a fan of all things Hitchcock, though, this is still a solid pick. The suspense, the cinematic nods, and the slow unraveling of past secrets make it a fun, atmospheric read, it just didn’t fully deliver for me.
