March 2024 Wrap Up

Alright folks, sit back and get comfortable because I slayed my March reading list! I read so much this month and honestly didn’t even realize how quickly I was going through books. All together I read 15 books in March, like what the heck! I never get through that many books in a month. I did read some of my favorite authors this month and focused primarily on thrillers/mysteries and romances which I always tend to read quicker. I read a grand total of zero literary or historical fiction books and that’s just where I’m at right now.

If you’re new to Speaking Of…, I like to post a monthly wrap up of everything I read during the month. I link my reviews to what I read for easy access, talk about any books I did not finish (DNF), and pick out my favorite and least favorite reads for the month.

Let’s dive into what I read and see if you need to add any to your TBR!

Kept my reading streak going strong, and I really enjoyed most of my reads this month. Just a few 3 star reads but a handful of 5 star reads!

I listened to 4.5 books this month. Everyone Who Can Forgive Me is Dead was a hard listen for me. The narrator gave me lots of anxiety and when I switched to reading the last few chapters, the story flowed much smoother in my opinion. Mother-Daughter Murder Night was my second listen of the month, and it was a great easy mystery to listen to while running around. The Murder After The Night Before was a fun twisty murder mystery I also enjoyed. Katy Brent’s books are a little on the darker side, but I like them. Granite Harbor was my final listen of the month, and it has the typical detective murder mystery vibes that word great for an audiobook, for me at least. Minus the subject matter, it’s soothing read. I also half listened to Darling Girls, while the audiobook was good, I’m a much faster reader so switched to my eBook to binge it!

My less than stellar 3-star reads were The Good The Bad and the Aunties and Play Dirty. Both were fine for what they are, and I found then entertaining but they’re just not standouts. The Aunties is the last in the series and it felt like an afterthought I could take or leave. Play Dirty is for romance/smut lovers and not for strong plot lovers. Again, good for what they are but not award winners.

I caught up on Alex Finlay and Abby Jimenez’ books this month and read two from each author. They are such great writers that I’m not surprised that I had a 5-star read from both this month. I gave both What Have We Done and Just for the Summer 4-stars, while If Something Happens to Me and Yours Truly were 5-star standouts!

Three of my other favorite authors also had new books out/coming out: Sally Hepworth, C.J. Tudor, and Lynn Painter. Painter’s books Happily Never After while cute, wasn’t my favorite from the author but both new releases from Hepworth and Tudor totally make up for the releases that were lacking last year, in my opinion. In fact, Darling Girls and The Gathering are tied for my favorite read of the month!

Lastly, if you need a cozy mystery either How to Solve Your Own Murder or Nosy Neighbors will fit the bill. These cozy mysteries were fun and I wouldn’t mind them becoming series.

That’s what I read! Did we read any of the same things?? What was your favorite read from March??
