February flew by. Even with the extra day this year, I cannot believe it’s March already. February ended up being a busy month for us and I’m looking forward to a quieter March.
If you’re new to Speaking Of…, I like to post a monthly wrap up of everything I read during the month. I link my reviews to what I read for easy access, talk about any books I did not finish (DNF), and pick out my favorite and least favorite reads for the month. I was actually surprised by how many books I read, as I felt it was taking me forrreeeverr to get through books; but I ended up reading 10 books and I really enjoyed most of them!
Let’s dive into what I read and see if you need to add any to your TBR!

Kept my reading streak going strong, but unlike January, I enjoyed my February reads a whole lot more. I think I’m finally out of my reading rut and I hope to stay that way!
I listened to 3 books this month: Assistant to the Villain, Check & Mate, and Bless Your Heart. I had heard great things about Assistant to the Villain and thought it’d give me Starter Villain vibes. I didn’t hate it, but it was just okay. While I’ll probably still read a sequel, I didn’t get the ‘hype’ that has surrounding the story. The audiobook narrator was good, but I just wanted so much more from the story. On the other hand, I loved Check & Mate and Bless Your Heart. Ali Hazelwood is one of my favorites, I don’t care if her formula is the same in every book, I just know I’m going to love it. This one was no different, and even though it’s YA so nowhere near as ‘steamy’ as her adult books, I found this one to be a cute and quick read. It also made me want to get my old chess set out. Then there is Bless Your Heart. I love quirky, paranormal mysteries, stories filled with witty banter and interesting characters, and this one delivered. It comes ot in April and I’m hoping it’s going be a series.
I was ended up being ‘meh’ on Expiration Dates which comes out March 19th, and An Antique Hunters Guide to Murder. I’m a big fan of Rebecca Serle’s a while it had a strong start, I just couldn’t get on board with the ‘secret’. Check our my review for the full reason, and know it’s entirely a ‘me’ issue. An Antique Hunters Guide to Murder ended up being more of a ‘Cozy Mystery’ than I anticipated. I thought it had quite a bit of potentially but it was just too long of a book for me.
Both Don’t Forget to Write and The Rom-commers were the cutest reads. I’m a big Katherine Center fan, and as always, she delivered a sweet romance with substance. Don’t Forget to Write was also cute but with a historical fiction twist. It wasn’t a five-star read for me, but I recommend it, nonetheless.
My favorite reads of the month were Simone St. James’ Murder Road, Steve Cavanagh’s Kill for Me Kill for You, and A Fate Inked in Blood! All three of these books have very different audiences and I am the perfect reader for all of them! Highly highly recommend all three!
That’s what I read! Did we read any of the same things?? What was your favorite read from January??
